What is Hydrotherapy? How Burke Williams is Leading the Charge

Posted by Burke Williams on Mar 19, 2026

There are times in life when terminology changes and what we call things becomes almost something new, however the core principles and benefits hold true, and with hydrotherapy trending now we thought it would be helpful to drop some knowledge since Burke Williams has been a leader in the spa world for the past 40 years.

First and foremost, the concept of hydrotherapy has been around for thousands of years going back to the Egyptian, Greek and Roman baths that used hot water to provide a way to relax and recharge, and up until today we continue to provide that same ritual for millions of guests.

The reason hydrotherapy has been around for so long is due to the benefits and though we have seen them firsthand, it’s always good to provide insights from outside sources. In particular, a study published by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2024 said it best:

“Based on available literature, this review suggests that hydrotherapy was widely used to improve immunity and for the management of pain, CHF, MI, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, asthma, PD, AS, RA, OAK, FMS, anorectal disorders, fatigue, anxiety, obesity, hypercholesterolemia, hyperthermia, labor, etc.”

At Burke Williams we can only rely on what we know – guests coming and leaving relaxed – while leaving the science to others, and it’s exciting when our feedback from guests and science collide to say one thing: The benefits of hydrotherapy cannot be ignored.
