Unlike other careers where working a full-time job 40 hours each week is the objective, the massage therapy world is more based on quality over quantity and as humans we can only do so much to maintain the best quality of service – similar to why athletes and sports teams train for a season that lasts 6 months at the most then they recover/recharge after.
For 30+ years this has sparked a variety of questions we’ve received at Burke Williams and likely other top luxury day spas, and we’re going to dig into some of them below:
Finding the Best Work-Life Balance for Massage Therapists
One of the common questions we’ve been asked is around finding the best work-life balance as a massage therapist, and identifying the “best” comes down to a variety of factors – many of which are highly subjective and dependent on your personal goals.
For example, someone that’s single with no obligations has much more flexibility to work additional hours, cover shifts and continue to learn whereas a massage therapist with a family may want to work 20 hours a week, know their job/pay is secured via a reputable company like Burke Williams, and therefore have the best work-life balance for them.
Do Massage Therapists Need to Work Full-Time for Benefits?
We can’t speak for other companies, though Burke Williams offers a wide range of benefits for massage therapists that work 15+ hours a week (healthcare, 401k, continued education/opportunities, etc.) along with other perks that we’re proud of.
The simple answer is no: Massage therapists don’t necessarily need to work full-time to get benefits, it all depends on the particular company you’re working for.
Part-Time Massage Jobs Give You the Flexibility/Opportunity to Shine
Whether you’re searching for a massage therapy job that offers part-time hours because you want to spend time with your family, have other passions you’re pursuing or simply want to perfect your craft (massage), it’s important to work for a company that supports you while offering resources/opportunities to grow.
The moral of the story is that there are a wide variety of job opportunities for massage therapists today, though what is truly the best fit for you? And that’s a decision only you can make.
Burke Williams is continuing to expand and looking for the best, most talented massage therapists to join our team at locations throughout California (Hollywood, Mission Viejo, Orange, Pasadena, San Jose, Santa Monica, Sherman Oaks, Torrance, Woodland Hills).
