Name: Chi Angelico           Hired: 2022

Burke Williams Location: Mission Viejo

Position: Massage Therapist

What inspired you to become a massage therapist?

AI can’t take over our job!

I knew I wanted a career that supported health, kept me active, and was something I could do for a lifetime. That’s what led me to massage therapy. With technology advancing so quickly, people sometimes worry about machines replacing human work—but I truly believe the need for human touch will always remain. And that belief has only grown stronger since I joined Burke Williams.

What was your path like from student to professional?

While studying massage therapy, I worked at a chiropractor's office, which gave me hands-on exposure to the muscular and skeletal systems. It really helped me understand the body and recognize areas of tension. After graduating, I applied to Burke Williams. Even though I was a beginner, their comprehensive training program gave me the confidence and skills I needed to start working professionally right away.

How would you describe your massage style or philosophy?

"Gently but surely."
That’s how one of my clients once described my massage, and I felt so seen. It perfectly captured what I aim to offer—steady, intentional, and healing touch that leaves a lasting impression.

How do you tailor your approach to different clients?

Every client is unique, so communication is key. I ask simple, clear questions to get a sense of their needs, but I also rely on touch and movement as a way of “listening” to their body. Of course, ongoing study and experience are essential too—I’m always learning so I can deliver an even better massage each time.

What made Burke Williams stand out to you when you were looking for a place to work?

I hadn’t heard of Burke Williams until Jenn, the Recruiter, visited our school and offered us a complimentary massage at one of their locations. That experience left a huge impression on me—not just the amazing massage, but the warm hospitality and the beautiful, welcoming environment. I knew right away I wanted to be part of it.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

It’s always lovely to hear kind words from guests, but what means the most is when someone returns specifically to see me. When I hear, “I’m here for Chi,” it truly makes my day. It reminds me that they planned ahead, booked their appointment, and made the trip because they value the experience I provide—and that inspires me to give them my very best every time.

You recently became one of our trainers—what inspired that next step in your career?

I had become comfortable in my role as a massage therapist, but I wanted to do more—to give back to Burke Williams, to the massage industry, and to every guest who walks through our doors. Becoming a trainer allows me to help raise the standard of service and ensure that every guest has an unforgettable experience. It’s not always easy, but I love a challenge, and I thrive in a space that encourages growth.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in massage therapy?

Study hard and practice even harder! It takes time to discover what you truly want to do, but learning and growing are key to finding joy in any career. Massage therapy isn’t for everyone, but the knowledge and skills you gain are valuable wherever life takes you. And if you’re curious—we’d love to show you just how fun and rewarding this path can be!

What do you do to relax when you're not giving massages?

I love to dance Hula when I want to relax. One of the first things my Hula teacher told me was: “With every step, you receive energy from the ground.” That message was so beautiful to me—it reminded me of the flow and grounding energy of massage.
